For an experienced hotel or hostel leader, this General Manager appointment in Auckland, New Zealand is a genuine career-defining step: the chance to open a large property and lead it from the start. The company runs hostels, hybrid hotel-hostel stays and food and beverage venues across Australia and New Zealand.
The scope is broad. You would direct four department heads (Host, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage and Maintenance) and be accountable for guest experience, culture, commercial results and compliance.
Being involved from January 2027, two months before the March opening, means you design the operation and recruit the leaders around you. The employer is accredited, considers applicants in New Zealand or overseas, and can support a sponsorship application for the right person. A cover letter is needed.

Key Responsibilities
- Direct the property and its Host, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage and Maintenance department heads
- Be accountable for guest experience, culture, financial performance, standards and compliance
- Design the operation and recruit the leadership team with the wider team before launch
- Lead the culture of a new property from plans to opening
- After launch, integrate the operation, support your leaders and keep teams aligned
- Work with the wider business across the pre-opening phase
Requirements & Eligibility
- Experience running a busy hotel or hostel operation
- Understanding of lodging, yield management and what drives commercial performance
- Comfortable with budgets, labour, revenue and cost control
- Some food and beverage exposure, ideally across bars, restaurants or busy social venues; knowledge of the Auckland hospitality and lodging scene is helpful but not essential
- A cover letter is required to be considered for interview
