For tradespeople looking to grow a heavy vehicle career, this full-time role in Perth combines body building and mechanical repair in one position. A busy, well-established trailer workshop is recruiting a Heavy Vehicle Body Builder / Trailer Mechanic.
The body building scope covers fabrication, welding, structural repairs and bodywork on trailers of many different makes and models, guided by technical drawings. The mechanical scope covers inspecting, servicing, diagnosing and repairing trailers, with work on brakes, suspension and running gear. Across both, the workshop is after a practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving.
On the visa side, 482 visa sponsorship may be considered for suitably qualified overseas applicants, subject to the relevant visa and occupation requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Fabrication, welding, structural repairs and bodywork across a broad range of trailer makes and models
- Full mechanical care of trailers: inspection, servicing, diagnosis and repair
- Brake, suspension and running gear work
- Reading technical drawings and solving practical problems hands-on
Requirements & Eligibility
- Strong welding and fabrication capability, with experience in steel and aluminium
- Ability to interpret technical drawings
- Proven heavy vehicle and trailer experience, supported by strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills
- Knowledge of trailer running-gear brands, for instance Hendrickson, K-Hitch, BPW and SAF
- Experience working on electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Trade qualifications relevant to the role and/or a solid industry background
- Advantageous: an HR or other truck licence, forklift licence, confined space certification, intermediate rigging, overhead crane experience
