Australia work visa fees in Indian rupees: a 482 starts near INR 264,500 before extras
Tips · 2026-10-31 · 8 min read

The base charge for an Australian Skills in Demand (subclass 482) visa is AUD4,015.00, which is roughly INR 264,500 at the Reserve Bank of Australia rate of 16 October 2026. That one number is only the start: a partner, a child, an English test, a medical and a police certificate each add their own line, and the sponsoring employer carries the sponsor's own costs. This guide converts every official charge we have checked into rupees so you can budget before you accept an offer.
What the rupee figures mean, and what they do not
Home Affairs publishes visa charges in Australian dollars only. To show rupees, this guide uses the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) rate for 16 October 2026: 65.89 Indian rupees per Australian dollar. Every rupee amount below is a rough comparison at that published rate, rounded sensibly. Rates change every day, and your bank or card will use its own rate plus its own fees, so your real figure will differ.
Check the dollar charge on the official Home Affairs visa pricing table before you pay, and today's rate on the RBA exchange rates page. If you want the wider picture, our earlier piece on visa application charges after 1 July 2026 looks at how the charges are set; this page is about the rupee side.
Australian and New Zealand work visa charges in rupees
The table lists the base application charge for each work-related route that Indian professionals and tradespeople most often ask about. "Base" means the main applicant's charge before family members and before any other cost.
| Visa | Official charge | Rough comparison in INR |
|---|---|---|
| Skills in Demand (subclass 482), Core Skills, Specialist Skills or Labour Agreement stream | AUD4,015.00 | INR 264,500 |
| Subclass 482, subsequent temporary application | AUD700.00 | INR 46,100 |
| Employer Nomination Scheme (186), Skilled Nominated (190), Skilled Work Regional (491) and Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (494) | AUD6,140.00 | INR 404,500 |
| Skilled Independent (189), points-tested stream | AUD6,135.00 | INR 404,200 |
| Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) (191) | AUD630.00 | INR 41,500 |
| Work and Holiday (462), first visa | AUD840.00 | INR 55,300 |
| Work and Holiday (462), second or third visa | AUD1,000.00 | INR 65,900 |
| MATES (subclass 403 stream), from | AUD470.00 | INR 31,000 |
| New Zealand Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), from | NZD $1540 | INR 82,600 |
The New Zealand row is converted in two steps, from New Zealand dollars to Australian dollars at the RBA rate of 1.2285 New Zealand dollars per Australian dollar, then to rupees at 65.89. Because that chains two rates, treat it as the roughest number on the page.
Employer-sponsored routes: 482, 186 and 494
If you are applying through an employer, the 482 is usually the first visa you meet. Its base charge is the same AUD4,015.00 in each of the Core Skills, Specialist Skills and Labour Agreement streams. Our Skills in Demand 482 planning guide explains how the stream and the employer's role fit together.
The permanent employer routes cost more. The 186 and the regional 494 both have a base charge of AUD6,140.00, roughly INR 404,500. For the 186, anyone aged 18 or over who is assessed as not having functional English pays a second instalment of AUD9,800 for a main applicant, roughly INR 645,700. That makes English a money question as well as an eligibility one, so it is worth planning your test early.
Not sure which route your offer sits on? Browse IT and technology jobs or accounting and finance jobs and read which visa each employer says it will support.
What family members add
For the 482, the additional applicant charge is AUD4,015.00 for each applicant aged 18 and over and AUD1,005.00 for each applicant under 18. A child's additional charge is roughly INR 66,200.
As a worked example, take a main applicant, a partner and one child under 18. The three charges together come to roughly INR 595,300 at the same rate. That is before tests, medicals or police certificates, which is why a single-person budget is often too small for a family.
Costs that are not the visa charge
Besides the visa charge, applicants pay other costs for English language tests, health checks, police certificates and biometrics. The official pages do not give one fixed rupee price for these, so budget from each provider's own current price list rather than from a forum post.
- English test: if your occupation or visa needs one, book it with the test provider and keep the result valid on your lodgement date. Practice tools such as PractiseNow can help you prepare for IELTS or PTE before you pay for the real test.
- Health check: follow the instructions in your online account, and see our guide to choosing a panel clinic city and timing it with your PCC.
- Police certificate: a Passport Seva PCC where one is requested.
- Skills assessment: only where your occupation needs one; the assessing body sets the price.
One cost should never land on you. The sponsoring employer must pay all costs of becoming a sponsor and nominating an applicant and cannot transfer these costs to the visa holder or their family. If someone asks you to repay them, read our piece on recruiting agent service charges in India before you pay anything.
New Zealand: what to know about the AEWV
The Accredited Employer Work Visa costs from NZD $1540 and lets the holder stay up to 5 years depending on the job. New Zealand employers cannot charge you fees for a job or make you pay any of their recruitment costs, including indirectly through a third party. Immigration New Zealand (INZ) never asks for visa fees to be paid into a bank account; it only accepts debit or credit card payment on its forms, or payment at an approved Visa Application Centre.

How to build your own rupee budget
- Write down the exact visa and stream named in your offer, and open the official pricing table for that visa.
- Copy the base charge for yourself and the additional charge for each family member, separating adults from children under 18.
- Look up the current RBA rate, or your bank's rate, and multiply each dollar figure by it.
- Add the test, medical, police certificate and biometrics costs from each provider's own page.
- Add a buffer for the exchange rate moving, and for card or transfer fees.
Common mistakes Indian applicants make with visa costs
- Budgeting from a rupee figure on a social media post instead of the official dollar charge and the rate on the day you pay.
- Forgetting that each family member has their own charge.
- Assuming the visa charge is the whole cost, when tests, health checks and police certificates are separate.
- Paying an agent or "sponsor" who says the employer's costs are yours. The employer pays the sponsor costs.
- Sending visa money into a personal bank account. For New Zealand, INZ never asks for that.
