Support Worker/Life Facilitator

This Life Facilitator position is designed for a responsible, capable and people-focused professional who understands that quality support depends on trust, consistency and accountability.
- The client: a highly motivated tetraplegic person, supported by an established 24/7 team.
- The purpose: helping the client maintain independence, stay active and manage personal, professional and family commitments.
- The expectation: proven reliability, confident communication and respectful teamwork within a structured environment.
Following routines, using initiative and building professional trust are as important as practical support skills, and all are valuable foundations for a lasting career in support work.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the client with personal care and the practical tasks of everyday life
- Keep agreed routines and timetables running smoothly
- Give hands-on help as the day's activities unfold
- Fill an integral place within the coordinated 24/7 roster of support staff
- Enable the client to meet employment and professional obligations
- Provide transport to appointments and activities, accompanying the client throughout
- Help the client take part in family commitments and events
- Be a source of companionship and encourage an active social life
- Apply the individual care plan and agreed procedures while keeping professional boundaries and courteous communication
- Pass key updates clearly to colleagues across the support team
- Respond sensibly as needs shift and take the initiative to resolve everyday situations
- Travel with the client and assist when required
- Cover a roster spanning day, afternoon, evening and overnight shifts
- Take on sleepover duties as required
- Complete training specific to the role
- Be consistently present and dependable, contributing to a safe, positive and respectful setting
Requirements & Eligibility
- Background in disability support, healthcare, personal care or community support preferred
- Minimum NZQA Health and Wellbeing Level 3, or a commitment to working towards it
- Valid driver's licence is essential
- A record of dependability and professional behaviour
- Honesty and trustworthiness in everything you do at work
- A clear communicator with good interpersonal skills and an upbeat, engaging personality
- Sensible, grounded judgement in practical matters
- Stays calm and level-headed when circumstances shift
- Takes full personal accountability
- Collaborates well as part of a 24/7 team
- Follows care plans, routines and instructions with accuracy
- Comfortable being hands-on, and flexible as schedules and support needs change
- Able to cover day, afternoon and evening shifts
- Able to cover overnight sleepover shifts
- Able to cover at least two weekend shifts each month
- Capacity for approximately 35 hours per week, spread over approximately 2–4 rostered shifts per week
- Open to training and to building relevant support skills
- Genuine respect for the client's independence, privacy and priorities
