Registered Nurse

Each applicant's clinical background, qualifications, English capability and preparedness for New Zealand professional requirements are reviewed. Where suitable, international nurses, including those trained in India, are guided through registration with the Nursing Council and, if relevant, the CAP route.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessment and monitoring: carry out full clinical assessments and regular health observations, noticing changes in residents' condition and escalating them through the right channels
  • Care planning: write and update personalised care plans, and provide safe care shaped around what each resident needs
  • Records: produce clinical notes that are accurate, complete and on time
  • Person-centred practice: uphold each resident's dignity, independence, comfort and wider quality of life
  • Family partnership: earn the trust of residents and their families, and keep them and the care team clearly informed
  • Multidisciplinary work: partner effectively with care assistants and other health professionals
  • Clinical leadership: mentor care assistants, offer clinical direction and champion consistent best-practice procedures
  • Quality: join quality improvement initiatives and help sustain high standards of clinical care and service
  • Professional practice: make sound judgement calls in clinical and resident-care situations, in line with relevant professional, clinical and workplace standards
  • Culture: foster a culturally inclusive, respectful environment

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Registration readiness: NZ Nursing Council CAP approval, or readiness to complete the applicable registration pathway and to undergo New Zealand nursing registration assessment
  • Qualification: Registered Nurse status, with credentials that the Nursing Council of New Zealand can assess
  • Experience: minimum 2 years in nursing roles since graduating
  • Specialism: background in aged care or medical nursing preferred
  • Language: IELTS or OET scores satisfying the English language standard set by the Nursing Council
  • Education: training that aligns with New Zealand Registered Nurse scope-of-practice standards
  • Verification: a checkable record of qualifications and professional employment; applicants must be able to prove their qualifications, experience and supporting documents are authentic
  • Clinical skills: sharp assessment and observation ability, thorough documentation and an eye for detail
  • Communication: excellent skills in both writing and speaking
  • Care values: proven compassion and empathy towards older people
  • Teamwork: equally effective working alone or collaborating, as a positive team member
  • Professionalism: confident, accountable and professional, with a commitment to quality nursing and continuous improvement
  • Additional skills: InterRAI competency advantageous
  • Support: eligible overseas applicants may be considered for Accredited Work Visa sponsorship, suitable candidates completing Nursing Council registration have support available, and eligible international nurses may be considered for CAP assistance
