Quality Assurance Officer

Manufacturing · Auckland, New Zealand · Full-Time · Discussed at interview · Visa: Ask us

For a quality professional aiming to deepen regulatory and export expertise, this Quality Assurance Officer position in Auckland spans the full quality function of a food and dietary supplement manufacturer. The site produces dairy and nutritional powders, powdered drink products, sachets, hard capsules and tablets.

The scope runs from quality frameworks and internal auditing to New Zealand export compliance, a mix that builds well-rounded, transferable capability. The employer specifically wants practical quality systems experience in food production and notes that laboratory-only candidates may not be suitable.

To position yourself well, prepare a CV that traces your progression in quality assurance, from audit coordination and CAPA ownership to RMP verification and export documentation. You can build a career-focused CV with Build AI CV to present that growth clearly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the day-to-day upkeep and continuous improvement of GMP, NP3 and RMP systems.
  • Assure that internal procedures, MPI requirements, the applicable OMARs and the approved RMP are reflected in every manufacturing activity.
  • Act as coordinator for verification visits and audits conducted by customers, third parties, MPI and recognised agencies.
  • Drive audit readiness by assessing the site, consolidating records, reviewing documentation and aligning the relevant departments.
  • Design the internal audit programme and oversee its implementation.
  • Conduct internal audits autonomously, produce the resulting reports and close out identified issues.
  • Examine product release, monitoring, warehouse, cleaning, packing and manufacturing records.
  • Undertake compliance checks over hygiene, packing, export, storage, product release, production and traceability.
  • Manage the response to non-conforming products, customer complaints and deviations, including root cause investigations and CAPA.
  • Take part in validation activities, risk assessments, mock recalls and traceability exercises.
  • Administer export applications and documentation within MPI's E-cert system.
  • Determine export eligibility in line with the applicable OMAR requirements.
  • Compile and review export paperwork, notably Health Certificates, Transfers and Eligibility Declarations together with supporting records.
  • Sign off intermediate products, raw materials, finished products and packaging materials, with testing commissioned from accredited third-party laboratories and non-conforming results pursued.
  • Cross-check labels, manufacturing documents, formulations and product specifications for accuracy and compliance, while supporting supplier approval, supplier documentation review and supplier performance monitoring.
  • Upskill packing, warehouse, production and other employees in food safety, quality systems and GMP, and support the QA Manager across regulatory, quality, export compliance and food safety work.

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A relevant qualification in Microbiology, Quality Management, Food Science, Food Safety or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of two years' QA or quality systems tenure within New Zealand food manufacturing.
  • Prior exposure to a comparable manufacturing operation, e.g. capsules, dairy products, sachets, nutritional powders, tablets, dietary supplements or other export food products.
  • Sound knowledge of New Zealand RMP requirements, spanning verification, ongoing maintenance and record review, plus good working knowledge of RMP, GMP and food safety management systems.
  • Knowledge of the applicable OMAR requirements combined with hands-on practical use of MPI's E-cert system.
  • Experience in coordinating third-party, MPI, customer or recognised agency audits.
  • Demonstrated capability to plan internal audits, conduct them independently, produce audit reports and follow up the resulting corrective actions.
  • A record of managing CAPA, deviations, root cause investigations, non-conformances and complaints.
  • Strong written and reading English, enough to interpret audit reports, export documentation, standards and regulations.
  • Mandarin communication skills for day-to-day operational coordination.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft suite: Excel, Outlook and Word.
  • Preferred: previous involvement in AsureQuality, MPI or other recognised agency audits; knowledge of food export requirements for China, Hong Kong or other overseas markets; experience in an animal-product or dairy RMP manufacturing facility; knowledge of dairy export processes and MPI export certification; internal auditor training or qualification; experience with Health Certificate applications, Eligibility Declarations and Transfers.
