For a retail manager planning the next chapter of their career abroad, this Otago position offers a genuine leadership brief: an outdoor and adventure retailer with an established presence in New Zealand needs a Store Manager whose decisions visibly move results, team strength and customer experience.
You would head a crew of roughly seven, backed by a seasoned Assistant Manager and the regional leadership group. The brief goes beyond filling a vacancy; you are expected to steer daily trading, lift what the team can do and ensure shoppers get expert, professional guidance.

Key Responsibilities
- Be accountable for the store's daily results and retail operations, modelling the standard through hands-on presence on the sales floor
- Build team capability with regular coaching, constructive feedback and product education, deepening knowledge of technical outdoor products and equipment
- Cultivate a positive culture grounded in accountability, teamwork and service to customers
- Grow sales and pursue the agreed store KPIs
- Direct stock control, store administration, merchandising and operational processes
- Pinpoint improvements to store efficiency and customer satisfaction
- Champion structured employee development through internal training programs
- Uphold strong standards across customer service, store presentation and operational compliance
- Partner with the Assistant Manager and regional leadership
- Translate commercial insight into responses to sales opportunities and evolving customer needs
Requirements & Eligibility
- Demonstrated retail leadership as a Store Manager, Assistant Manager or comparable senior position, including a proven record of managing, coaching and developing retail employees
- Solid commercial understanding of sales targets, KPIs and retail performance
- Confident, hands-on leadership, with the capacity to motivate a small team while maintaining clear performance standards
- Well-developed customer service, relationship-building, communication and decision-making capabilities
- Capable administrator and organiser, with sound operational management
- A genuine passion for adventure, outdoor recreation, technical clothing or specialist outdoor equipment
- Effectiveness on a busy, fast-moving retail floor dealing directly with customers
- Availability for the required Tuesday–Saturday roster
