A restaurant in Christchurch, New Zealand is recruiting an experienced Restaurant Manager on a permanent full-time basis, seeking a professional whose leadership experience, capabilities and background align closely with the position.
You will take ownership of team performance, development and consistency in a busy venue, connecting the management team, hospitality staff and guests. It is a strong platform for managers focused on long-term career progression in hospitality: building clear service standards and a well-supported team that delivers a consistent customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive overall front-of-house performance, maintaining a professional and positive working environment
- Lead, support, coach and develop a diverse team of local and international hospitality staff, monitoring performance and providing constructive feedback
- Define clear customer service and operational standards and implement workplace policies and procedures consistently
- Oversee opening and closing procedures and complete daily cash-up and financial handling
- Manage reservations and bookings, monitoring guest flow to sustain efficient service in peak periods
- Contribute to staff scheduling and rosters alongside management
- Maintain clear communication with Directors and General Management, partnering with management to improve operational efficiency and consistency
- Recognise service issues and resolve them with appropriate action
- Develop positive guest relationships that encourage repeat business, and support initiatives that lift customer satisfaction and revenue
- Ensure responsible liquor service and compliance with applicable requirements
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 2 years' experience in restaurant management or a comparable senior hospitality position
- Hands-on experience overseeing front-of-house operations, demonstrated in previous roles
- A proven record of leading, training and developing hospitality teams
- In-depth familiarity with high-volume restaurants running multiple sittings
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Mature, professional people-management style
- Customer-focused, with a strong ability to build relationships
- Working knowledge of hospitality service standards and sound understanding of liquor service and licensing compliance
- Effective guest flow management through busy trading periods
- Strong organisational and decision-making skills, with the composure to work calmly and effectively under pressure
- Openness to learning the venue's specific products, systems and procedures
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
- Capacity to work a minimum of 30 hours per week across 5 days
- Genuine, verifiable hospitality employment history; candidates must be able to supply appropriate information or documentation supporting their professional background where required
