This Quality Assurance Manager position offers an experienced QA professional a strong pathway into greater operational responsibility within the Australian food industry, with structured onboarding, mentoring and career development available.
The employer, an established food processing organisation in Newcastle, New South Wales, is strengthening its quality, food safety and compliance operations. You will play a central part in keeping food safety systems, regulatory requirements, customer expectations and internal standards consistently maintained, drawing on technical knowledge and sound judgement.

Key Responsibilities
- Strengthen site-wide quality performance by coaching and developing QA personnel, providing technical direction and leading the QA team day to day
- Own the site's quality assurance and food safety function, maintaining effective quality management and food safety systems
- Review and improve Approved Arrangements and their compliance processes, ensuring ongoing compliance with applicable Australian food safety and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate internal, customer and regulatory audit programs while keeping operations continuously audit-ready
- Lead investigations into process failures, non-conformances and quality incidents, managing corrective and preventive action through to close-out
- Conduct mock recalls, traceability exercises and verification programs, supported by accurate quality documentation, records and compliance information
- Monitor production against food safety and quality standards, leading pre-operational, hygiene and process verification activities
- Champion accountability and a positive food safety culture throughout the workforce
- Drive improvements to quality systems, processes and operational controls in partnership with production and management teams, resolving quality and compliance issues
- Contribute to meeting animal welfare requirements and relevant industry standards
Requirements & Eligibility
- A qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Agricultural Science, Quality Management or a comparable discipline that is relevant to the role
- Professional experience across quality assurance, food safety, compliance or food manufacturing
- Practical, working knowledge of HACCP principles and food safety management systems
- Experience in supporting or leading regulatory, quality or customer audits
- Capability to identify root causes of non-conformances, implement effective solutions and manage corrective and preventive actions
- Strong understanding of verification, traceability and quality documentation procedures
- Ability to sustain high standards within a regulated production environment
- Previous experience supervising, coordinating or developing quality professionals
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, combined with confident communication and stakeholder management
- Capacity to collaborate effectively with production and senior management teams
- Food processing or export industry experience is advantageous
- Meat processing, DAFF compliance or Approved Arrangements experience is highly regarded
- Relevant international qualifications and professional experience will be considered
