Production Manager

Trade · Rockhampton & Capricorn Coast QLD, Australia · Full-Time · $80,000/yr

This Production Manager appointment offers the chance to lead a specialist solar salt production operation in Queensland, Australia and to shape the next stage of its growth.

The operation produces upwards of 200,000 tonnes annually. You will hold end-to-end responsibility, from seawater intake to final stockpile, lead a workforce of 10+ employees, and own the results on production efficiency, product quality, inventory and operating cost. Because the process is seasonal and weather-dependent, the role calls for strong technical understanding, practical leadership and sound decision-making.

For engineers and production leaders from India and other countries, it is a substantial step into senior industrial management in Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process management: oversee the entire solar salt operation from seawater intake to finished product, covering pumping, evaporation, crystallisation, harvesting, washing and stockpiling
  • Seasonal planning and risk: build production plans around seasonal conditions and weather forecasts, and manage the operational risk created by shifting weather
  • People leadership: lead and develop 10+ employees across production and mobile plant, and deepen capability through cross-training and multi-skilling
  • Commercial performance: monitor output, inventory and cost per tonne while owning production efficiency and operating costs
  • Quality: ensure finished product meets established specifications
  • Technical problem-solving: pinpoint production constraints, implement practical solutions and act as the escalation point for technical and process challenges
  • Improvement and growth: support capital projects and upgrades to plant and field infrastructure, pursue gains in efficiency, reliability and resilience, partner with technical consultants and internal specialists, and contribute to the site's long-term expansion
  • Records: maintain accurate production and stockpile data

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Technical depth: strong technical knowledge of evaporation and crystallisation processes; demonstrated experience in solar salt production is highly desirable
  • Applicants with international solar salt production experience are encouraged to apply
  • Chemical engineering, chemistry or comparable technical qualifications may be considered where relevant production experience can be demonstrated
  • Leadership track record: proven experience heading production, processing or industrial operations, and managing and developing multi-skilled frontline teams
  • Commercial acumen: strong understanding of production costs, inventory control and operational KPIs, plus demonstrated commercial awareness and operational accountability
  • Sound judgement: ability to make effective decisions as weather-dependent conditions change
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving capability
  • Strong leadership, communication and people-management skills
  • Capacity to work independently while collaborating with technical support teams
  • Willingness to relocate to and live on-site in regional Queensland, and ability to commit to a long-term role within a growing Australian operation
