Planner/ Architectural Draftsperson

The work blends architectural drafting with planning and development application tasks. You will document existing residential properties, including buildings needing reinstatement or redesign following fire, tree or vehicle-related damage. Success depends on accurate reading of existing conditions, clear documentation, strong attention to detail and an understanding of how drawings connect with wider planning requirements.

Alongside drafting, you will contribute to planning documentation, DA preparation, consultant coordination and portal submissions, broadening your professional skill set.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review the LEPs, DCPs and applicable development controls for each project
  • Author Statements of Environmental Effects and supporting planning documents
  • Prepare Development Application packages and lodge them via the planning portal
  • Monitor DA submissions and support their progression
  • Record existing residential and medium-density buildings with precision
  • Carry out site measurements and convert existing conditions into detailed architectural drawings
  • Develop preliminary plans and contribute to identifying structural elements in architectural documentation
  • Serve as the coordination point between designers and specialist consultants in heritage, bushfire, stormwater, structural, civil, surveying and arboriculture
  • Deliver professional 2D AutoCAD drawings in both model and paper space
  • Uphold the firm's drafting standards consistently throughout project documentation
  • Quality-check drawings and documents for accuracy, completeness and consistency
  • Diagnose technical or documentation issues and resolve them efficiently
  • Liaise with clients, consultants and colleagues on project requirements
  • Self-manage workloads to agreed project deadlines and contribute ideas and improvements as the consultancy scales up

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Demonstrated experience in architectural drafting, planning or a related professional field, supported by relevant qualifications and/or substantial practical industry experience (experienced architectural drafters are encouraged to apply)
  • Proven proficiency in 2D AutoCAD, with sound understanding of drafting standards and drawing office procedures
  • Practical background in architectural drawings for existing buildings, including precise interpretation of measurements and existing site conditions
  • Understanding of architectural documentation for residential and medium-density projects
  • Experience preparing or supporting Development Applications and planning documentation such as Statements of Environmental Effects
  • Knowledge of NSW LEPs, DCPs and associated planning requirements
  • High accuracy and attention to detail, combined with strong analytical and technical problem-solving ability
  • Capability to coordinate effectively across multiple consultants
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, taking ownership of assigned work with limited supervision
  • Professional written and verbal English, with effective communication towards clients and project stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe applications
  • Ability to commence as soon as possible
