Motor Mechanic

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct vehicle inspections to determine the work needed for ongoing roadworthiness
  • Apply computerised diagnostic equipment to diagnose faults in engines, transmissions, steering and other mechanical systems
  • Evaluate mechanical components for deterioration, damage and faults
  • Dismantle and remove engines, transmissions and other assemblies as required, and repair, replace or rebuild worn and defective components
  • Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, tune-ups and scheduled procedures
  • Work to manufacturer service specifications and technical information
  • Execute mechanical repairs in line with required technical standards
  • Validate repairs by testing and adjusting components and checking vehicle performance afterwards
  • Uphold high standards of safety, cleanliness and organisation throughout the workshop
  • Collaborate efficiently with workshop colleagues on assigned jobs, delivering reliable workmanship focused on vehicle safety and customer satisfaction

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Qualification in Motor Mechanics, Automotive Technology or a related field at Certificate III or higher
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a professional automotive setting
  • Demonstrated practical expertise in mechanical servicing and repair work
  • Strong capability in diagnosing vehicle faults and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency with computerised automotive diagnostic systems
  • Sound technical knowledge of engines, transmissions, steering and related mechanical systems
  • Capacity to work to technical manuals and manufacturer specifications
  • Strong, practical approach to problem-solving
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Effective communication and workplace skills, with the ability to work independently and within a professional workshop team
  • Capacity to supply evidence supporting relevant qualifications and employment experience
