Light vehicle technicians looking to advance their trade career can consider this Motor Mechanic – Light Vehicle role with a well-established automotive workshop in Wallan, Victoria.
Selection centres on verifiable trade skills and genuine time spent in a workshop. You will be expected to bring a practical command of how vehicles work, precise fault finding and the capacity to finish repairs safely and efficiently.
With a varied vehicle mix and notable exposure to European makes and advanced diagnostic technology, the workshop allows an experienced mechanic, whether trained in India or elsewhere, to apply and broaden existing expertise across different platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Use modern diagnostic tools to trace mechanical and electrical faults, examining each system to establish the root cause
- Handle scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, from engine oil and filter changes to general service routines
- Overhaul petrol engines and associated components, and examine and repair transmissions
- Look after brakes, suspension and steering through repair and upkeep
- Strip and examine engines, gearboxes and other assemblies, fitting replacements for defective, worn or damaged parts
- Carry out mechanical work in keeping with technical procedures
- Refer to manufacturer specifications and service data throughout diagnosis and repair
- Check each vehicle before and after work, and road test it to confirm the outcome
- Keep precise records of jobs completed and parts used
- Observe the workshop's safety and quality standards
- Maintain an orderly, clean workspace, tools and equipment
- Liaise with fellow technicians about repairs and what each vehicle requires
Requirements & Eligibility
- Recognised Motor Mechanic – Light Vehicle trade qualification or equivalent, plus a minimum 12 months of relevant automotive workshop experience
- Demonstrated hands-on track record in light vehicle servicing and repair
- Working knowledge of today's mechanical and electrical vehicle systems
- Strong diagnostic capability to pinpoint faults and decide on suitable repairs
- Exposure to engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension and steering
- Capacity to interpret repair documentation and manufacturer specifications, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship
- Current driver's licence
- Effectiveness working solo or as part of a team, at pace, in a busy workshop
- Professional communication and a positive outlook at work
- European vehicle experience will be highly regarded
- Experience with Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, BMW or Mercedes-Benz will be advantageous
- Readiness to supply evidence of qualifications and work history, and capacity to satisfy the requirements for available sponsorship
