Mining Engineer (Medium Term Planning)
Visa sponsorship
Engineering · Brisbane, QLD, Australia · Full-Time · Discussed at interview · Visa: Employer sponsored
For a mining engineer looking to deepen their planning expertise, medium-term scheduling at a long-life underground operation is a valuable next step. A large-scale zinc-lead-silver mine in Queensland is offering exactly that in a permanent Mining Engineer position.
The work sits between strategy and the daily plan. You would convert life-of-mine thinking into sequences, then develop, maintain and refine schedules across multiple operating fronts where development, stoping, ventilation, backfill, services and infrastructure interact. That breadth builds the kind of whole-of-mine perspective that senior planning roles call for.
The position can be held from Brisbane, on a FIFO basis or residentially at the mine, and visa sponsorship is available for suitably qualified candidates.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and progressively improve mine plans and schedules aligned with production and development targets.
- Convert Life-of-Mine and long-term direction into medium-term mining sequences that make the best of stope extraction, development timing, ventilation availability and infrastructure readiness, and that hand over cleanly to short term planning.
Requirements & Eligibility
- A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related subject.
- Demonstrated career experience in underground hard rock mining.
- Preferably, a background that includes mine planning, scheduling or technical services positions.
- Practical experience with mine planning and design software (e.g. Deswik, Surpac or equivalent) across development planning, stope sequencing and schedule analysis.
- A strong technical understanding of underground mining methods, development requirements and production sequencing.
- The capacity to interpret and combine geological, geotechnical, ventilation and operational constraints within practical mine plans.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, assessing planning risks, identifying constraints and developing practical solutions.
