Sitting within the short-term planning function, you will convert established mine strategies into clear, achievable plans that underpin safe production and development. Success requires a grounded understanding of underground operations and the confidence to apply engineering expertise across mine design, drill and blast, production planning and operational challenges, backed by demonstrated technical expertise and practical underground experience.

Key Responsibilities

Use mine planning software to deliver accurate, practical designs
Lead preparation and delivery of short-term underground mine plans
Convert overarching mine strategies into practical operational plans
Design mine layouts for development, production and underground infrastructure
Leverage engineering expertise to enhance mine sequencing and operational outcomes
Develop and optimise drill and blast designs
Assess stope designs alongside short-term production requirements
Partner with operational teams to keep plans realistic and achievable
Pinpoint planning risks, constraints and improvement opportunities
Provide technical direction to the mining engineering team while mentoring engineers, graduates and cadets
Align planning requirements across development, stoping, services, ventilation and backfill, supporting production readiness and effective execution
Champion continuous improvement in mine planning and design practice

Requirements & Eligibility

A tertiary-level qualification in Mining Engineering, or in a related field
Minimum 6–8 years of professional mining engineering experience
Strong underground hard rock background with sound understanding of underground mining methods and production processes
Proven short-term mine planning and demonstrated operational mine design capability
Strong drill and blast design expertise
Track record of technical leadership or mentoring junior engineers
In-depth stope design and mine sequencing knowledge
Proficiency with Surpac, Vulcan, Datamine, Deswik or comparable software
Capacity to demonstrate genuine, verifiable underground mining experience
Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and operational teams
