Mechanic

A well-established Northern Territory automotive business is recruiting Motor Mechanics for a full-time role in a supportive, professional workshop, giving skilled tradespeople a base from which to build their career in Australia.

The employer is looking for demonstrated hands-on experience, strong diagnostic ability and consistent quality workmanship.

For experienced professionals, including mechanics trained in India and other countries, progress depends on more than securing an overseas position. Your qualifications, skills and work history need to be clearly represented and verified so employers can be confident in your application.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnostics: diagnose faults through systematic troubleshooting and appropriate diagnostic methods, inspect vehicles and assess their condition, and identify underlying problems before recommending repair solutions
  • Servicing and repair: deliver scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs, including repairing and replacing engines, transmissions, suspension components and other systems
  • Tools and equipment: use workshop tools and diagnostic equipment accurately and safely
  • Quality assurance: complete repairs to professional quality and safety standards, keep work practices accurate and professional, and test vehicles after repair to confirm correct operation
  • Mentoring: support apprentices and junior technicians with practical technical guidance
  • Workshop standards: maintain a clean, safe and efficient workshop
  • Teamwork: collaborate with the wider automotive team

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Qualification: recognised Motor Mechanic trade qualification or an equivalent overseas qualification
  • Experience: minimum 2 years of relevant hands-on automotive work preferred
  • Proven track record: genuine, demonstrable experience in vehicle diagnosis, servicing and repair, supported by evidence of qualifications and previous employment
  • Workshop background: previous dealership or professional workshop experience is an advantage
  • Technical capability: strong diagnostic, troubleshooting and mechanical problem-solving skills with a high standard of workmanship and attention to detail
  • Driving: current driver's licence and the ability to drive manual and automatic vehicles
  • Work style: able to work independently and take responsibility for completed work, with strong communication and teamwork, a professional attitude and commitment to workplace safety
  • Mobility: willingness to relocate to the Northern Territory
  • Sponsorship: candidates requiring visa sponsorship may be considered, subject to suitability and verification of qualifications and experience
