Maintenance & Reliability Lead

Trade · Perth WA, Australia · Full-Time · $80,000/yr

For maintenance professionals ready to move from the tools into a broader leadership remit, this Maintenance & Reliability Lead position with an expanding Western Australian manufacturer is a strong next step.

The brief is to lift plant reliability and create a structured, proactive maintenance function, building and refining it rather than inheriting a finished system. Expect a blend of technical troubleshooting, maintenance planning, automation, asset management, contractor coordination and continuous improvement, delivered alongside production teams, equipment manufacturers and technical specialists to raise availability, cut recurring failures and embed practices that support long-term growth.

Engineers and tradespeople from India and other countries with solid industrial maintenance backgrounds will find real scope to develop here.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy and ownership: set the direction for maintenance and reliability across the facility, with accountability for how available, reliable and well-maintained the plant is
  • Planned maintenance: design structured predictive and preventative regimes, timing work around equipment criticality and what production needs
  • Breakdown response: attend to faults and stoppages, establish their cause, and carry out electrical and mechanical repairs yourself where your qualifications and authorised scope allow
  • Automation and diagnostics: resolve issues with control systems, PLCs, HMIs, drives, motors, sensors and instrumentation, tracing problems through hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical and instrument circuits
  • Reliability engineering: analyse repeat failures, investigate root causes and put durable corrective measures in place
  • Asset data: keep registers of assets, work orders, service records and equipment histories complete and correct
  • Systems: roll out and refine CMMS workflows, MEX included, alongside any other relevant equipment maintenance platforms
  • Standards and documentation: define inspection rounds, service intervals and maintenance standards, and write usable procedures, checklists and technical records
  • Spares: sharpen how critical spares are identified, stocked and managed
  • External partners and projects: direct outside specialists, vendors, equipment makers and service providers, and assist with equipment installation, commissioning, upgrades, modifications and handover
  • Operator engagement and performance: coach production operators on equipment care and spotting faults early, while helping lift uptime, safety, response times and overall efficiency
  • Safety compliance: enforce isolation, lockout/tagout and permit-to-work rules and wider safety procedures, and confirm that licensed or specialist tasks go to suitably qualified people

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Qualification: a recognised trade qualification in mechatronics, industrial electrical, electromechanical engineering, mechanical fitting, fitting and turning or a related technical discipline
  • Industry experience: strong maintenance experience in production, processing or manufacturing settings, with a demonstrated hands-on record of diagnosing and repairing industrial equipment
  • Automation: practical understanding of control and automation systems, and experience with industrial motors, VSDs, PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation and sensors
  • Mechanical capability: strong mechanical fault-finding and maintenance skills, plus knowledge of corrective, preventative and predictive approaches
  • Reliability results: a history of lifting plant reliability and reducing downtime
  • Maintenance systems: experience on a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS); background with MEX, Buhler or a comparable platform will be highly regarded
  • Capacity to create maintenance processes, systems and documentation from a blank page
  • Strong root-cause analysis, troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to juggle competing maintenance priorities and manage suppliers, manufacturers and contractors, backed by strong organisational and communication skills
  • Sector background: a history in pet food, animal feed, FMCG, food, grain, milling or similar manufacturing will be advantageous
  • Equipment exposure: work on batching, mixing, extrusion, drying, cooling, coating, conveying or automated packing equipment will be advantageous
  • Projects: experience in reliability engineering, condition monitoring, commissioning or equipment upgrades will be highly regarded
  • Compliance: you can work safely inside relevant licences, qualifications and authorised scope; familiarity with HACCP, GMP or controlled manufacturing environments will be advantageous
  • Work rights and relocation: Australian work rights or eligibility for employer-sponsored employment, readiness to move to Western Australia, and eligibility for Australian visa, skills-assessment, licensing and qualification recognition requirements
  • Candidates from overseas with strong industrial maintenance backgrounds are encouraged to apply; an exceptional overseas candidate can be offered employer sponsorship
