Machine operation can be the foundation for a specialist career in automation. A packaging operation in Otago, New Zealand is recruiting an experienced Machine Operator who is confident with industrial equipment and keeps output on track.
The focus is practical capability: demonstrable experience running machinery, making adjustments, diagnosing faults and holding production standards. With new equipment arriving and automation increasing, you will help improve equipment performance as well as operate it.
Over time, the position can evolve into a specialist role in packaging machinery, automation and production optimisation, a strong long-term pathway for operators from India and elsewhere.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the installation and commissioning of new machinery, and help test and optimise automated equipment
- Run production and packaging lines safely and productively
- Ready machinery for each run and complete equipment setup
- Execute product changeovers and fine-tune operating settings
- Observe machinery throughout each run and act on performance problems
- Detect faults, stoppages and irregular machine behaviour
- Resolve equipment problems by applying hands-on mechanical know-how
- Undertake routine cleaning, lubrication and basic upkeep
- Oversee output quality and the conditions equipment is running under
- Maintain production logs and complete operational paperwork as required
- Comply with food safety, quality and workplace health and safety procedures
- Support packaging, kegging, warehousing and the movement of finished goods
- Pinpoint ways to minimise stoppages, lift machine performance and sustain dependable, efficient flow
- Own the performance and condition of the equipment assigned to you
Requirements & Eligibility
- Interest in automation, modern machinery and production technology
- At least 2 years of relevant machine operating or manufacturing experience
- A demonstrated background operating production or industrial machinery
- Prior roles as a Machine Operator, Production Operator or similar
- Well-developed practical mechanical knowledge and fault-finding skills
- Capacity to configure machinery and make precise operational adjustments
- Capacity to recognise equipment faults and trace their root causes
- Experience in basic mechanical maintenance and equipment care
- A firm focus on workplace safety and production quality, with close attention to detail when monitoring machinery and finished products
- A practical, tools-on attitude, with the capacity to work independently and take ownership of machinery performance
- Packaging, canning, bottling, food or beverage production experience is advantageous
- Capacity to evidence relevant machinery and production experience
- Willingness to relocate to Otago and build a long-term career in New Zealand
