HVAC Service Technician

A well-established Waikato company specialising in HVAC and refrigeration services needs an experienced HVAC/Refrigeration Service Technician to be accountable for demanding maintenance and servicing assignments.
You will be expected to draw on a hands-on commercial background spanning chillers, central plant, refrigeration and HVAC, applying technical judgement to pinpoint issues and resolve them dependably for a varied client base.

Key Responsibilities
- Build lasting working relationships with clients through professional communication
- Inspect, repair and service refrigeration and air conditioning systems in commercial settings
- Deliver scheduled and preventative HVAC equipment maintenance
- Troubleshoot and maintain chilled water systems within central plant
- Service water-cooled and air-cooled chillers alongside VRF/VRV systems
- Maintain process cooling plant of the DX and chilled water type
- Isolate the root cause of faults in refrigerant circuits, compressors, fan motors and related components
- Undertake commissioning, installation and start-up for refrigeration and HVAC systems
- Interpret technical documentation, equipment specifications and construction drawings
- Perform welding and ACR copper pipework as required, together with evacuation and pressure testing of systems
- Undertake authorised electrical tasks covering isolation, disconnection and reconnection
- Calibrate and fine-tune temperature control systems
- Interface with Building Management Systems and HVAC controls
- Evaluate technical issues to determine appropriate repair approaches, maintaining a professional standard of workmanship at each customer site
- Adhere to PPE procedures, site-specific safety requirements and workplace Health & Safety standards, and contribute to site inductions, toolbox meetings and safety reporting
- Take part in the required roster for after-hours callouts
Requirements & Eligibility
- National Certificate in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning or National Trade Test Certificate Class III Assistant Tradesperson
- At least 5 years of post-qualification experience in chiller and central plant systems
- Where the specified qualification is not held, 8+ years of relevant experience may be considered
- Demonstrated background across commercial refrigeration and HVAC
- Practical understanding of DX, VRF/VRV, chilled water and chiller systems
- Well-developed diagnostic, fault-finding and repair capability
- Experience commissioning, installing and starting up refrigeration and HVAC systems
- Ability to interpret equipment specifications and technical drawings
- Capacity to operate independently and take ownership of allocated work
- Strong communication and client service skills
- A consistently professional standard of workmanship on record
- Willingness to participate in on-call rostering
- Commitment to professional site conduct and workplace safety
