For an agricultural professional ready to step up, this senior leadership role means responsibility for significant farming assets and a hand in setting the long-term direction of a large operation.
The employer wants a verifiable large-scale farming background that pairs on-the-ground agricultural expertise with leadership, planning and commercial judgement. You will direct the cropping, pasture, fodder and irrigation side of the business, and your experience should translate into measurable gains in productivity, land utilisation, efficiency and financial results.
Expect substantial autonomy, with backing from an established agricultural business and experienced agronomy, livestock and farming teams. The remuneration comprises approximately $150,000 base salary, a new dual-cab vehicle, five-bedroom accommodation on the farm and opportunities for performance-based bonuses.
Key Responsibilities
- Hold full accountability for how the operation performs, both operationally and financially, while leading activity across extensive agricultural landholdings
- Mentor and manage supervisors, overseers and machinery operators on the farm, owning workforce planning, staff training and performance development
- Translate production targets, resource availability and on-farm conditions into seasonal operating plans, drawing on operational data for well-informed decisions
- Direct the cropping, pasture, irrigation and fodder programs (oats, wheat, barley, vetch and irrigated sorghum), aligning fodder supply with the wider livestock and feed side of the business
- Own the yearly budget, forecasts, spend and capital investment, and monitor crop and pasture results, productivity and operating costs
- Partner with agronomists to lift crop performance, soil health and the establishment of pasture
- Assess and roll out initiatives that improve land and productivity, and drive capital projects that raise efficiency and long-term asset value
- Deploy GPS, precision agriculture and digital farm-management technology
- Uphold sustainable practices for land management and improving soil
- Champion safety, accountability and continuous improvement as part of the culture
- Oversee contractors, suppliers and providers of agricultural services
- Keep internal agricultural and operational teams well informed through effective communication
Requirements & Eligibility
- Senior-level leadership of agricultural or farming operations that can be demonstrated, with a proven record of managing mixed farming, livestock or cropping environments
- Strong, practical command of production systems for large-scale agriculture, as well as farm machinery and modern farming practices
- A demonstrated understanding of weed control, chemical use and agronomy
- Experience in cost management, production planning, forecasting and farm budgets
- Experience applying digital farm-management systems, precision agriculture and GPS
- Demonstrated capability to develop and lead agricultural teams, supported by strong stakeholder management, communication and planning
- Strong decision-making in commercial and operational matters, with a demonstrable history of measurable results and responsible farm management
- Tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Agribusiness or a related field highly regarded
- ChemCert or an equivalent qualification advantageous; an HR or MC licence is also advantageous
- Current driver's licence required
- Capacity to meet the Australian employment and visa requirements that apply
