Duty Manager

Looking to step up from supervisor to venue leader? A high-volume licensed hospitality business in the Northern Territory needs a seasoned Duty Manager to steer its operations shift by shift.
While rostered on, you would act as the most senior contact, directing frontline staff in hospitality, gaming and functions, handling guest needs and solving operational problems as they come up. Day to day, the position draws on people management, customer care, regulatory compliance, financial control and sound operational judgement, all aimed at keeping each shift safe, efficient and professional.

Key Responsibilities
- Compliance and safety: keep the venue within liquor, gaming, responsible gambling, food-safety and workplace-safety rules, while fostering a safe, professional and upbeat team culture
- Venue control: carry overall accountability for the venue while rostered, oversee opening and lock-up routines, and safeguard keys, security protocols and restricted zones
- Team leadership: direct, supervise and support staff working in food and beverage, gaming and functions
- Workforce planning: assign each day's duties, keep shifts adequately staffed and contribute to rostering, training, staff development and performance management
- Financial controls: oversee cash handling, tills, floats, safe balances and gaming transactions, reconcile each shift and pass on accurate financial handovers
- Guest experience: keep service and venue presentation at a high level, and settle complaints as well as operational or behavioural issues
- Incident response: take the right action in security incidents
- Events: assist with functions, entertainment and promotions
- Facilities: watch stock levels, equipment condition, cleanliness and upkeep needs
- Reporting and improvement: produce accurate shift, incident and operational reports, put workplace policies into practice and pursue gains in venue performance
Requirements & Eligibility
- Education and experience: either a relevant AQF Diploma-level qualification (or equivalent) combined with at least one year of relevant full-time-equivalent experience, or at least three years of relevant full-time-equivalent experience managing in hospitality, hotels or licensed clubs
- A demonstrated track record of supervising and leading hospitality teams, plus prior work in a licensed venue environment
- Familiarity with how gaming and licensed hospitality operations run, and a sound understanding of venue security and operational controls
- Strong, hands-on cash-handling and reconciliation background
- Strong people-leadership and team-management capability, combined with excellent skills in customer service and conflict resolution
- Good written communication, including report preparation
- Licensing and training: a current NT Responsible Service of Alcohol certification, and either current Responsible Service of Gambling training or a willingness to undertake the required training
- An NT Gaming Machine Manager licence is preferred, otherwise the willingness and eligibility to obtain it
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays, and the capacity to satisfy relevant licensing, probity and employment requirements
- International applicants must meet the applicable criteria around qualifications, experience, English-language proficiency and visas
- Suitably qualified candidates may be offered visa sponsorship, which may extend to eligible applicants qualifying through an NT DAMA pathway, subject to all required approvals
