Key Responsibilities
- Read project requirements carefully and deliver every task to specification
- Lay, install and maintain sewer and stormwater drainage
- Construct drainage infrastructure for both gravity and pressure systems
- Put in pipelines along with the civil infrastructure linked to them
- Take part in wastewater pump station and treatment facility work, and support water treatment installations
- Run 20T excavators safely across civil construction sites
- Handle trenching, excavation, backfilling and preparing sites
- Drive loaders, compactors and similar machinery as relevant
- Undertake PE welding as required
- Work in confined spaces where this has been approved
- Fit telecommunications and power utility infrastructure
- Pour and finish concrete, and carry out landscaping and reinstatement of sites
- Recognise problems on site and help develop workable solutions
- Hold productivity steady without compromising required quality
- Collaborate with drainlayers, operators, supervisors and other people on site
- Observe health, safety and environmental procedures, limiting avoidable effects on the environment and local community
- Look after equipment, work areas and sites so they meet appropriate standards
Requirements & Eligibility
- Demonstrated background in civil construction, drainage or a closely related field
- Relevant hands-on work as a Drainlayer, Drainage Operator, Excavator Operator or Drainage Labourer, plus proven construction machinery operation where applicable
- Current and clean Class 2 driver's licence
- Possession of a Class 4 licence advantageous
- WTR endorsement would be advantageous
- Prior operation of excavators, loaders, compactors or other heavy machinery would also be advantageous
- A strong practical and technical grasp of construction
- Dependability and a professional work ethic, both demonstrated
- Adaptability across varied projects and responsibilities
- Strong team and communication skills
- Ability to solve practical problems
- Safety comes first in every site activity, with quality workmanship a firm commitment
- Capacity to sustain a physically demanding construction workload consistently
- Prepared to relocate to Otago, New Zealand
- Valid New Zealand work rights are a must, or candidates must meet the requirements for employer-supported visa sponsorship
