Diesel Motor Mechanic

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on heavy vehicles
  • Keep diesel-powered systems in good working order through servicing, repair and maintenance
  • Pinpoint and rectify faults in diesel engines and heavy vehicles
  • Trace mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults, drawing on diagnostic tools and software for precise identification
  • Examine heavy vehicles to establish what maintenance or repair work is required
  • Deliver repairs efficiently and to a professional standard
  • Record work accurately on job sheets, service records and maintenance documentation
  • Comply with workshop procedures and applicable health and safety requirements, keeping the work environment clean, organised and safe
  • Liaise with colleagues on repairs, faults and maintenance needs
  • Operate safely across both workshop and outdoor settings

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 2 years' practical experience in heavy vehicle servicing and repair
  • A relevant mechanical qualification, demonstrable industry experience, or both
  • Full Class 1 driver's licence or equivalent, with a Class 4 driver's licence advantageous
  • In-depth practical understanding of diesel engines and heavy vehicle systems
  • A demonstrated capability to trace faults in mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems, supported by experience with diagnostic equipment and software
  • Strong communication and problem-solving capabilities
  • A dependable, safety-focused and professional work style, including the ability to complete service paperwork and keep records accurate
  • Physical capacity for manual mechanical work
  • Readiness to undergo pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and to complete a pre-employment medical assessment successfully
  • Capacity to pass a Ministry of Justice (MOJ) check and supply genuine, verifiable documents covering identity, employment and qualifications
  • Current New Zealand work rights, or eligibility for work authorisation sponsored by an employer
