Diesel Fitter

Experienced heavy equipment tradespeople can broaden their technical expertise in this Diesel Fitter / Heavy Plant Mechanic role, supporting the reliability of a diverse construction and mobile plant fleet for a well-established Queensland construction and engineering business.

The role extends beyond routine workshop servicing into specialised plant and in-field response, making it ideal for a professional with a genuine history of heavy machinery work, complex fault diagnosis and high-quality repairs.

Suitability will be established through your trade credentials, professional background and practical experience. Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake onsite inspections, identifying maintenance or repair requirements
  • Maintain and service a varied fleet of heavy construction and mobile plant through planned servicing and preventative maintenance programs
  • Investigate mechanical faults and determine the best repair approach
  • Diagnose and rectify hydraulic system faults
  • Perform electrical fault finding on heavy mobile equipment
  • Carry out service and repair work on piling rigs, cranes, excavators and associated machinery
  • Attend field breakdowns, set priorities and complete field-service work efficiently to return equipment to operation
  • Replace worn, damaged or failed mechanical and hydraulic components
  • Complete repairs with the appropriate workshop tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Verify safe, reliable operation by testing machinery after repairs
  • Keep accurate records of servicing, repairs, inspections and component replacements
  • Operate independently when attending remote or onsite equipment issues
  • Uphold high housekeeping, safety and workshop standards and follow all relevant workplace health and safety procedures

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Recognised trade qualification in Diesel Fitting, Heavy Plant Mechanic, Mobile Plant Mechanic or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience repairing and maintaining heavy mobile plant across construction, earthmoving or specialised heavy equipment
  • Practical familiarity with excavators, cranes, piling rigs or comparable machinery
  • Advanced fault-finding and diagnostic capability, including sound knowledge of hydraulic systems and component repair
  • Electrical diagnostic experience on mobile plant
  • Background in field service or breakdown response
  • Capacity to troubleshoot and complete repairs without constant supervision
  • Comfort working across both workshop and construction-site environments
  • Current Australian driver's licence or relevant eligibility to obtain one
  • Strong safety awareness and professional work practices, with a reliable, adaptable and self-motivated approach
  • Ability to evidence your relevant qualifications and professional experience
  • Hands-on experience with CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi, Liebherr, Tadano, Grove, Franna, Terex or comparable equipment will be advantageous
