Culinary professionals with a background in Indian cuisine can take their commercial kitchen experience further with this Australian hospitality employer, which is recruiting a capable chef with a demonstrated record in commercial kitchens.

The role suits a cook who combines dependable technique and strong kitchen discipline with practical experience in a busy restaurant. Alongside preparing Indian cuisine, you will contribute to the wider management of the kitchen, from organising preparation and safeguarding food quality to controlling stock, costs and wastage.

Candidates will be assessed on relevant experience, practical skills and overall suitability for the position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook Indian dishes to established standards, ensuring consistency in recipes, portion sizes, flavour and presentation
  • Plan and organise daily preparation requirements ahead of service
  • Sustain efficient cooking and preparation through busy trading periods
  • Track ingredient usage to help control food costs, and minimise food waste through effective preparation and stock practices
  • Manage appropriate stock levels, support purchasing, and correctly receive, check, store and rotate food supplies
  • Contribute to menu preparation, recipe development and dish costing
  • Coordinate kitchen activities and keep an efficient workflow across preparation and cooking areas to support timely service
  • Mentor junior kitchen staff through guidance and practical training
  • Support supervision of kitchen employees when required
  • Ensure food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards are met at all times
  • Collaborate with front-of-house and kitchen colleagues

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Demonstrated experience preparing Indian cuisine within a professional kitchen
  • Commercial cooking experience of approximately 3–4 years in relevant roles
  • In-depth understanding of Indian ingredients, spices, recipes and cooking techniques
  • Experience in a high-volume food service environment or busy restaurant
  • A hospitality qualification or relevant formal training would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of kitchen cost management, portion control and food costing
  • Understanding of ordering, stock control and waste minimisation
  • Capacity to sustain quality and productivity throughout busy services
  • Strong organisational and time-management abilities, with clear communication and effective teamwork
  • Sound knowledge of food hygiene and safe kitchen practices
  • A professional, dependable and positive approach to work
  • Ability to contribute effectively within a diverse hospitality team
  • Willingness to undergo relevant employment, experience and eligibility verification
