CNC Operator /Craftsman

This role gives a CNC Joiner / Cabinetmaker the chance to bring existing skills into a modern production environment and keep developing as a specialist.

You will manufacture plywood kitchens, cabinetry and furniture, pairing traditional joinery skills with CNC production and Lean manufacturing systems, while deepening your knowledge of CNC equipment. It suits a hands-on, dependable and curious professional motivated to master the craft. Experience from overseas or New Zealand is accepted when you can demonstrate genuine capability and the right approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build deeper knowledge of CNC equipment and production systems
  • Operate CNC machinery for cabinetry and furniture production, preparing and machining components accurately to specification
  • Assemble and finish cabinet and furniture products
  • Inspect completed work for accuracy and quality, and maintain consistent workmanship through every production stage
  • Identify production issues and contribute to effective solutions
  • Assist with installation work as required
  • Maintain a clean, organised, efficient workshop
  • Adhere to established production, safety and quality procedures
  • Apply Lean manufacturing and 3S principles, identifying process improvements and reducing unnecessary waste
  • Work effectively within the production team and take responsibility for completing assigned work to the required standard
  • Participate in training and continuous-improvement activities
  • Support the team in sustaining high standards of productivity and workmanship

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Hands-on background in joinery, cabinetmaking, CNC machining or furniture manufacturing
  • Proven capacity to deliver precise, high-quality work, with strong attention to detail
  • A dependable, consistent work style supported by good practical and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working with limited supervision
  • Eagerness to learn new equipment, systems and processes
  • A strong sense of personal accountability and responsibility
  • Receptive to feedback and focused on professional development
  • HOMAG, WoodWOP, IMOS or other CNC experience is advantageous
  • Overseas trade experience is welcome; New Zealand trade experience is not mandatory
  • Current New Zealand manual driver's licence and the ability to drive a long-wheelbase manual van
  • Readiness to complete required Lean training ahead of a practical trial
  • Visa sponsorship may be considered for eligible overseas applicants
