CNC Machine Operator / Machinist

Trade · Christchurch City, Canterbury, New Zealand · Full-Time · $27/hr

Advance your machining career with an established firm whose precision engineering work serves clients in many sectors. The position suits an experienced CNC Machinist who would rather take on demanding, varied jobs than repetitive production runs.

Work arrives as one-off and small-batch projects on advanced CNC machining centres, and output spans everything from fine parts to large industrial equipment. Expect complex engineering challenges, modern CNC technology, a supportive team and genuine scope for long-term career growth.

  • Translate engineering drawings and technical specifications into precision components manufactured to specified tolerances
  • Specify appropriate tooling, fixtures and workholding solutions for each component
  • Deliver one-off and small-batch work across diverse engineering projects, conducting in-process inspections to assure quality and accuracy
  • Diagnose and resolve machining issues to optimise productivity, while upholding high standards of precision, workmanship and safety
  • Collaborate with the production team to achieve project deadlines, and keep equipment and work areas clean and organised
  • Champion continuous improvement and efficient manufacturing practices

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Proven experience as a CNC Machinist, with strong CNC milling experience and the ability to independently set up, prove and operate CNC milling machines
  • Experience operating multi-axis CNC machining centres within a precision engineering environment
  • Strong drawing-reading and interpretation skills for engineering drawings, underpinned by sound knowledge of machining processes, cutting tools and tolerances
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving capability, high attention to detail and a commitment to quality work
  • Efficient performance in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment
  • A positive, team-focused attitude and dedication to workplace health and safety practices
  • A relevant trade qualification or equivalent industry experience is highly regarded
