Climbing Arborist

Arborists aiming for a long-term career in New Zealand can apply for one of two Climbing Arborist positions in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. The employer is an established name in tree care, and it hires on fit, weighing qualifications, practical experience and technical ability.
Assignments move between residential, rural and commercial settings, ranging from everyday tree maintenance and reductions to technical removals and major projects. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert climbing arborist services for residential, rural and commercial properties, including large commercial projects
- Undertake pruning, reduction work and technical removals
- Determine the climbing, rigging and dismantling method best suited to each tree and site
- Direct aerial and ground-based operations safely and operate specialist arboricultural plant and equipment as required
- Evaluate site conditions and adhere to planned work and safety procedures
- Protect structures, infrastructure, retained vegetation and other site assets, favouring tree retention and vegetation protection wherever reasonably possible
- Keep climbing equipment, tools, machinery and PPE at a professional standard
- Coordinate with ground crew and fellow arborists for efficient job completion, and engage in paid training and continuous skills development
- Attend emergency and callout tree work as required, sustaining consistent standards of safety, reliability and quality
Requirements & Eligibility
- Level 3 or Level 4 Arboriculture qualification, or equivalent experience that can be demonstrated
- A proven track record as a climbing arborist
- Competence in aerial climbing and tree work
- Practical rigging and technical removal experience
- Capacity to run climbing operations independently on suitable jobs, backed by a strong understanding of safe arboricultural practice
- Class 1 driver's licence (essential)
- Class 2 or heavy transport licence (advantageous)
- Physical capability to perform demanding outdoor tree work
- A reliable, honest and professional approach combined with strong teamwork and communication skills
- Willingness to pursue further arboricultural training where required
- Overseas candidates with verifiable relevant qualifications and experience are welcome, with sponsorship available for suitable overseas applicants
- Candidates must meet relevant New Zealand work visa and employer requirements
