The kitchen centres on daytime service, quality ingredients and well-executed café and breakfast food. The successful chef will take ownership of their output, deliver consistent quality and contribute to menu development, specials and kitchen systems.

As the business expands, capable team members may progress into senior chef and kitchen leadership positions. Sponsorship is available for an eligible candidate meeting the experience and role criteria, while those with unrestricted Australian working rights are also encouraged to apply. Applicants should be ready to demonstrate their professional background during recruitment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute practical ideas for specials, seasonal dishes and menu improvements, and help develop and refine kitchen processes
  • Turn out café and breakfast plates of reliably high quality
  • Deliver dishes with careful attention to flavour, seasoning, texture and presentation, keeping portions, preparation and plating consistent
  • Keep pace through the breakfast and lunch rush
  • Handle quality ingredients and maintain strong preparation standards
  • Collaborate effectively with senior chefs and kitchen colleagues
  • Identify improvements in efficiency, organisation and service performance
  • Never compromise on food safety, hygiene or cleanliness
  • Monitor stock, support inventory management and apply effective preparation and storage practices that minimise food waste
  • Have your section tidy, orderly and set up before service
  • Support the training of developing kitchen team members
  • Stay clear and professional in communication from prep through to service
  • Take ownership of your duties and resolve issues proactively, staying consistent during high-pressure periods
  • Respond constructively to feedback and keep growing your culinary skills
  • Help build a respectful, accountable, professional kitchen culture

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 3 years as a professional chef, with a demonstrated background in café, breakfast or daytime kitchens
  • Track record of performing well where service volumes are high
  • Well-developed hands-on cooking ability and a clear grasp of flavour balance
  • Consistency in delivering to food quality and presentation benchmarks
  • A genuine passion for quality produce and cooking that starts from the ingredients
  • Well-organised prep and sharp time management
  • Working knowledge of food safety and hygiene obligations
  • Composure in balancing competing priorities when the kitchen is busy
  • Clear communication and a collaborative team mindset
  • Dependable and accountable in your role, open to feedback and committed to continuous improvement
  • Creativity that extends past executing standard recipes
  • Experience in bread, baking or pastry is advantageous
  • Availability for rostered weekends and for public holidays when required
  • Capacity for early morning starts from approximately 6:00am
  • Reliable transport to get to early shifts
  • Applicants must currently be based in Sydney
