This is a career-building role for chefs ready to move into greater leadership. A busy restaurant in Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast is seeking a capable Sous Chef or Senior Chef to strengthen service performance, kitchen organisation and team standards.
Working alongside the Head Chef, you will help coordinate the kitchen team, maintain food quality, manage preparation and keep daily operations efficient.
The position particularly suits a chef with a proven professional kitchen track record whose consistent service, strong discipline and lead-by-example approach can be demonstrated, and who is ready to take greater ownership of service.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to a positive, disciplined and collaborative kitchen environment
- Partner with the Head Chef to manage daily kitchen activities
- Coordinate preparation and service for lunch and dinner operations
- Organise preparation to enable efficient service delivery
- Take ownership of consistent food quality and presentation
- Lead and supervise kitchen team members throughout service
- Train staff and embed established kitchen procedures
- Oversee stock levels, rotation and par requirements, supporting food cost control and wastage reduction
- Contribute to rostering and labour allocation decisions
- Uphold HACCP, food safety and WHS procedures
- Keep the kitchen clean, structured and service-ready at all times
- Liaise with front-of-house staff to align service requirements
- Resolve service issues quickly and professionally while sustaining productivity and quality under pressure
Requirements & Eligibility
- Demonstrated background as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef or experienced Chef
- Strong grounding in professional commercial kitchens
- Proven capability managing preparation and busy service periods
- Demonstrated team leadership or supervisory experience, with the capacity to train, guide and support kitchen staff
- Applied knowledge of HACCP, food safety and WHS requirements
- Practical expertise in stock control and food cost management
- Sound understanding of kitchen staffing and labour requirements
- Well-developed communication and organisational abilities
- Meticulous attention to detail and kitchen cleanliness
- Capacity to sustain consistent standards during high-volume service
- Confidence working both independently and within a team
- A professional, reliable and accountable work ethic, combined with a positive attitude and strong problem-solving
- Availability across a 7-day roster, including weekends and public holidays
- Readiness to own kitchen performance and standards
