A commercial kitchen in the Stanley, Devonport and North West Tasmania region is recruiting an experienced Commercial Chef, offering a solid foundation for a long-term career in the Australian hospitality industry.

Candidates should have a proven background in professional food preparation and service, demonstrated technical ability, sound kitchen discipline and the confidence to take responsibility when service is busy. Qualifications and professional experience need to be clearly demonstrable and verifiable.

In this role you will contribute to daily kitchen operations, uphold consistent food standards, support menu development and help create an efficient, positive workplace. Chefs from India and elsewhere with verifiable credentials can use it to build professional standing in Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mentor, train and guide junior kitchen team members
  • Share appropriate cooking techniques and preparation methods with less-experienced colleagues
  • Produce a wide variety of dishes that meet established quality standards
  • Ensure presentation, portion control and quality are consistent on every plate
  • Plan preparation requirements ahead of each service period
  • Sustain effective mise-en-place across assigned sections
  • Take independent charge of a kitchen section during busy services
  • Contribute to menu planning, seasonal offerings and new dish development
  • Apply professional cooking techniques, ensuring consistency from service to service
  • Oversee food quality from preparation to final presentation
  • Support purchasing, ordering and stock management activities
  • Ensure appropriate food storage, stock rotation and temperature control, monitoring ingredient usage and taking practical steps to minimise waste
  • Uphold high standards of kitchen cleanliness and personal hygiene
  • Adhere to Australian food safety, hygiene and workplace safety requirements as well as workplace recipes, procedures and operational standards
  • Collaborate with kitchen and front-of-house teams through clear communication that supports accurate, timely food service
  • Help maintain smooth kitchen operations in high-volume periods
  • Foster a respectful, reliable and customer-focused kitchen culture

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent recognised qualification
  • A minimum five years of relevant experience in a commercial kitchen environment
  • Strong, demonstrable professional cooking background
  • Capacity to provide evidence of relevant qualifications and employment history
  • Confidence operating independently in a commercial kitchen
  • Demonstrated capability to manage a kitchen section during service
  • Practical grasp of menu development and seasonal dish creation
  • Working knowledge of stock control, food storage and wastage management in the kitchen
  • Strong knowledge of hygiene and food safety procedures
  • Capacity to maintain consistent quality under pressure
  • Strong communication and teamwork capabilities, plus the ability to supervise, train or support junior kitchen staff
  • Good organisational and time-management skills with attention to detail
  • Professional attitude, commitment to workplace standards and availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays
  • Candidates must satisfy applicable Australian employment and sponsorship eligibility requirements
