Key Responsibilities

  • Build familiarity with local New Zealand ingredients and produce, and take part in team meetings, training, supplier visits and workplace development activities
  • Oversee the daily operation and preparation of an assigned kitchen section, showing initiative under the direction of the Head Chef and Sous Chef
  • Complete daily mise en place and service preparation, then prepare, cook and present dishes, including international-style cuisine suited to professional dining, to a consistently high standard
  • Support daily specials, seasonal menu preparation and menu development with your own ideas and skills
  • Manage ingredient use responsibly to maintain quality and control unnecessary food costs
  • Keep preparation areas clean, organised and service-ready while upholding personal hygiene, food safety and kitchen sanitation standards
  • Monitor stock levels and advise senior kitchen staff of ingredient requirements
  • Assist in receiving, checking and correctly storing deliveries, and maintain stock rotation across chillers, freezers and dry storage
  • Minimise food waste through careful preparation, storage and stock control
  • Remain efficient and composed through high-volume service periods
  • Engage professionally and courteously with guests when required
  • Foster positive working relationships in a diverse, multicultural team, assist colleagues when operational requirements demand and undertake additional duties reasonably assigned by senior kitchen management

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Professional background as a Chef de Partie or in a similar commercial kitchen position
  • Demonstrated capability to prepare and cook food to professional standards
  • Practical experience in managing an individual kitchen section
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation, kitchen hygiene and food safety procedures
  • Capacity to work independently while contributing effectively to a team
  • Consistent performance in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal capabilities
  • A reliable, professional and positive work approach
  • Strong attention to detail and dedication to food quality
  • Passion for culinary work and a willingness to develop professionally, including working respectfully within a multicultural team
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • Holding relevant culinary qualifications is advantageous
  • Capacity to provide genuine and verifiable evidence of professional experience and claimed skills
