The role calls for someone ready to demonstrate people leadership, uphold exceptional standards and influence the direction of a professional kitchen, working within an experienced culinary team that values detail, consistency and technical excellence.
Professional background, qualifications and career achievements weigh heavily in selection, with preference for candidates who can clearly demonstrate high-end culinary experience. Experience in Michelin-starred or comparable international fine-dining kitchens is highly regarded.
Key Responsibilities
- Mentor and train developing chefs through ongoing practical guidance
- Supervise, coach and develop commis and junior chefs
- Provide leadership to kitchen staff across preparation and service periods
- Partner with the Head Chef on day-to-day kitchen operations
- Contribute to menu planning, recipe creation and culinary innovation, helping design and introduce new dishes
- Sustain exceptional food quality, presentation and consistency
- Oversee food preparation and cooking processes throughout each service
- Ensure consistent adherence to kitchen procedures across the whole team
- Manage ingredient ordering, stock levels and rotation while assisting with food costing and resource control
- Maintain precise operational and compliance documentation
- Ensure consistent compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health standards
- Liaise with front-of-house staff throughout service
- Identify improvements to kitchen efficiency and culinary standards
- Model professional conduct and foster a respectful, disciplined kitchen environment
Requirements & Eligibility
- A relevant culinary qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent professional training is preferred
- Minimum 5–7 years' professional kitchen experience, including a minimum 2–3 years in a senior chef, sous chef or supervisory capacity
- Proven track record in fine dining, Michelin-starred or equivalent high-end culinary environments
- Demonstrated career progression and increasing professional responsibility
- Strong technical skills in contemporary cooking methods
- Proven capability in leadership and team development, including training, mentoring and motivating kitchen staff
- Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene and kitchen compliance requirements
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with composure and high standards maintained during demanding services
- Experience in stock control, kitchen costing and inventory management
- Understanding of contemporary food trends and sustainable kitchen practices
- Strong commitment to quality, consistency and continuous improvement
- Currently employed in Australia with a valid visa
- Ability to provide appropriate evidence of professional experience and qualifications; must satisfy applicable requirements if considered for employer sponsorship
