An established hospitality operation is looking for a chef whose commercial kitchen capability, reliability and composure under demanding service can be clearly demonstrated and verified. Working with the Head Chef, you will directly shape food preparation, service standards, kitchen organisation and team performance.
For an eligible candidate, employer sponsorship is on offer, with the potential for pathways to permanent residence under applicable arrangements. The business is a participant in the Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA). Chefs from India and other countries seeking long-term career progression may find this role a strong fit.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef in running day-to-day kitchen activity
- Step in to run the kitchen when the Head Chef is not present
- Direct and guide kitchen staff as the situation requires
- Produce dishes that consistently meet set quality benchmarks in cooking, preparation and presentation
- Apply hands-on competence in a number of kitchen sections
- Contribute to grill, pizza, pasta and dessert work
- Finish mise en place and all pre-service prep
- Arrange stations so that service flows efficiently
- Keep quality, plating and portion sizes uniform from start to finish of service
- Stay productive when service volumes are high
- Ensure work areas stay tidy, organised and ready for service, observing food safety, hygiene and kitchen procedures
- Take part in daily briefings and relay operational needs
- Partner with chefs, kitchen colleagues and wider hospitality teams
- Plan the use of time and resources effectively during service
- Represent the kitchen with professional conduct, presentation and customer service
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 4 years as a professional Chef, gained in a comparable commercial kitchen setting
- Track record of hands-on work across multiple areas of kitchen production
- Candidates with grill, pizza, pasta and dessert backgrounds will be highly regarded
- A recognised culinary qualification obtained in Australia or overseas, or industry experience of an equivalent level that can be demonstrated
- Command of commercial food production and service, built in a busy, high-volume restaurant or hospitality operation
- Capacity to coordinate or lead kitchen staff when required
- Well-developed organisation and time management
- Clear communication, both written and spoken
- Dependable and professional attitude to workplace duties
- Capable of independent work and positive team contribution, with firm dedication to food safety, cleanliness and quality
- Current Food Safety certification is advantageous
- Current Safe Food Handling certification is advantageous
