A hospitality business in Northland, New Zealand is recruiting a Chef with a proven background in Indian and intercontinental cuisine. Beyond owning daily food preparation and cooking, you will contribute to menu development, kitchen organisation, stock control and food-quality standards, broadening your kitchen management skills along the way.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute Indian and intercontinental dishes so that taste, portioning, quality and presentation stay consistent from plate to plate
- Lead daily food preparation and kitchen organisation, keeping the workflow efficient through prep and service
- Bring professional techniques and cooking methods to every dish
- Shape the menu by contributing to planning, specials and the creation of new dishes
- Track how ingredients are used to support food-cost control, and place supply orders so stock stays at the right levels
- Align food prep with colleagues across the kitchen team
- Comply with allergen-management, hygiene and food safety rules
- Uphold a kitchen that is safe, tidy and well organised
- Offer hands-on guidance to kitchen staff as needed, and help the kitchen perform reliably when service gets busy
Requirements & Eligibility
- Demonstrated professional Chef experience, including proven hands-on preparation of Indian and intercontinental cuisine
- Strong capability in food preparation and commercial kitchen work, with the independence to manage cooking and prep responsibilities
- Understanding of food-cost management, menu planning, kitchen inventory procedures and stock control
- Strong understanding of hygiene and food safety requirements, plus the ability to keep presentation and food quality consistent
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- A dependable, organised approach to work
- Open to working weekends and evenings
- A relevant qualification in cookery or hospitality is advantageous
- A background in café or restaurant kitchens is advantageous
- Prior experience creating new menu items and specials is advantageous
- Prior supervision, guidance or training of kitchen staff is advantageous
- Overseas candidates must comply with the New Zealand employment and immigration requirements that apply to them
