The role is aimed at experienced chefs with a genuine commercial kitchen track record. Alongside demonstrating existing capability, you will develop further expertise in kitchen leadership, menu development, stock management, supplier coordination and restaurant operations.

Key Responsibilities
- Help lead a kitchen team of up to 12 people across daily operations
- Provide direction and hands-on support to kitchen team members
- Coordinate kitchen activity throughout preparation and service
- Assume responsibility for consistent food quality and presentation
- Prepare, cook and finish dishes in line with established recipes and service requirements
- Evaluate ingredients for freshness, quality and suitability
- Perform food preparation tasks including cleaning, chopping, blending, seasoning, heating and cooling
- Oversee cooking processes, ensuring appropriate times and temperatures
- Adapt preparation methods to dietary and special food requirements
- Operate confidently across kitchen sections as operational needs dictate
- Assess delivered stock quality, escalating concerns where standards are not met
- Ensure correct storage and upkeep of ingredients, and monitor food supplies, inventory and equipment requirements
- Assist with purchasing and coordinate with suppliers
- Contribute new recipes and menu concepts and refine existing dishes
- Maintain accurate, consistent kitchen processes supported by relevant digital systems for accountability and operational reporting
- Monitor food usage to help control food costs
- Assist in monitoring kitchen labour and operational efficiency, reporting relevant performance matters to management
- Foster a positive, professional team culture
- Sustain high standards across busy and quieter trading periods
- Identify and resolve operational issues with appropriate action
- Uphold kitchen cleanliness, hygiene and equipment standards, follow workplace procedures and food safety requirements, and contribute to ongoing improvement in kitchen systems and service standards
Requirements & Eligibility
- A minimum 3 years' professional kitchen experience, with a demonstrated background across commercial kitchens, hospitality venues or established restaurants
- Proven experience in a senior or responsible kitchen position, supported by a genuine, verifiable and relevant employment history
- Demonstrable practical cooking and food preparation skills, with strong knowledge of professional kitchen procedures
- Capacity to work confidently across multiple kitchen sections and a proven ability to coordinate and support other kitchen staff
- Previous experience in supervising or leading a kitchen team is highly desirable
- Strong command of food quality and presentation standards, together with knowledge of safe food preparation and dietary requirements
- Experience managing kitchen supplies, inventory and stock control
- Understanding of food costs and operational efficiency is advantageous
- Prior involvement in menu development or recipe creation is advantageous
- Capacity to remain calm and efficient under service pressure
- Strong teamwork and communication skills and a professional attitude with a willingness to take responsibility
- Ability to work effectively with suppliers and management, and willingness to learn digital systems used for restaurant accountability and reporting
- Fluent English for speaking, reading and writing
- Capacity to supply supporting documentation for qualifications and professional experience
- Must meet applicable New Zealand employment and visa requirements, with sponsorship available for eligible candidates
