For skilled Indian cuisine professionals, this is a chance to grow a career in Australian hospitality. A well-established Queensland business with a busy kitchen has multiple permanent openings for Indian Curry Chefs/Cooks, Tandoori Chefs/Cooks and Indian Cuisine Sous Chefs.

Your focus will be authentic Indian cooking, delivered to high standards of food quality, presentation and kitchen operations in a fast-paced setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a complete authentic Indian menu, from curries, tandoori specialities, sauces and breads to rice, entrees and desserts, operating and maintaining traditional tandoori ovens where applicable
  • Uphold recipe, portioning and presentation standards, and oversee preparation so every plate meets a consistent level of quality
  • Contribute to menu development with an eye on food and labour costs, and coordinate daily and weekly production schedules with management
  • Manage inventory at appropriate levels, reduce wastage, verify ingredient freshness and quality, and store produce in temperature-controlled facilities
  • Champion food hygiene, cleanliness and workplace safety, including the upkeep of kitchen equipment and hygienic work areas
  • Mentor, train and support junior cooks where required
  • Address food quality issues and customer feedback with professionalism
  • Apply strong organisational and time management skills to perform efficiently in a fast-paced commercial kitchen

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A minimum of three years' experience preparing authentic Indian cuisine, in a role such as Indian Curry Chef, Tandoori Chef, Indian Cook or Sous Chef
  • A relevant Commercial Cookery or Hospitality qualification matched to the position, backed by a strong command of traditional Indian cooking techniques and authentic recipes
  • The capability to perform efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced kitchen
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Dedication to food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety standards
  • Capability to supervise and train junior kitchen staff where required
  • Overseas applicants: a positive skills assessment is required, and an IELTS score of 5.5 or 6.0 in each module, or an equivalent PTE score, is also required
