Key Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering and fabrication drawings to prepare, measure, cut and position materials accurately
- Perform aluminium MIG welding and weld a range of other metals, sustaining consistent standards and professional workmanship
- Undertake boat-building, fabrication, fitting and assembly work
- Operate fabrication machinery such as saws, shearing equipment, cranes and benders, together with engineering hand and power tools including drills, grinders, squares and levels
- Verify the accuracy and quality of fabricated and welded components
- Adhere to health and safety procedures and keep tools, equipment and work areas clean and organised
- Collaborate with supervisors and colleagues to meet production requirements and drive improvements in workshop processes, productivity and project outcomes
- Complete time sheets, material requests and other job documentation
- Escalate production, equipment or material concerns to the appropriate supervisor
Requirements & Eligibility
- Established professional track record in welding, fabrication or boat building, including strong practical aluminium work and MIG welding to a high standard
- Exposure to a variety of metals and welding processes
- Precision in interpreting engineering drawings
- Working command of fabrication machinery, workshop equipment and engineering hand and power tools
- Sound grasp of safe workshop practice and occupational health and safety requirements
- Meticulous attention to detail, delivering workmanship that is consistent and high in quality
- Practical fabrication and problem-solving capability
- Capacity to perform both independently and as part of a team
- Dependable and safety-conscious, with a commitment to meeting production standards
- Readiness to supply evidence of relevant skills and employment history, and to work in Southland, New Zealand
