Blaster/Painter

This Blaster/Painter role offers industrial coating professionals the opportunity to progress within a well-established industrial services business in Western Australia, which is currently expanding its workshop team.

The employer is seeking skilled tradespeople with proven industrial experience who recognise that quality surface preparation matters as much as the final finish. Using modern workshop equipment, you will apply industrial paint systems on work delivered to exacting standards for a range of demanding sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute industrial grit blasting and surface preparation, achieving the specified Sa 2.5 and Sa 3 cleanliness grades and confirming compliance before any coating is applied
  • Ready substrates and materials for the application of protective coatings
  • Apply a full range of industrial coating systems, from zinc-rich primers through to high-build epoxies and polyurethanes, including stripe coats and other specified stages
  • Run both conventional and airless spray-painting equipment
  • Monitor wet film thickness with gauges throughout application, keeping every coat within specification
  • Work to QA/QC procedures at each stage of blasting and painting
  • Carry out inspection and upkeep of blasting and painting plant
  • Resolve operational faults in blasting equipment and the blast room
  • Handle the loading and unloading of blasting trolleys
  • Keep the work environment safe, orderly and clean

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant industrial blasting and painting experience; workshop-based experience in industrial surface treatment is essential
  • Demonstrated proficiency in abrasive blasting to Sa 2.5 and Sa 3 standards
  • Sound knowledge of industrial paint and protective coating systems, plus hands-on use of polyurethanes, zinc-rich primers and high-build epoxies
  • Confident, proficient use of conventional and airless spray equipment
  • Precision in applying coatings to specified thicknesses, informed by an understanding of coating quality control and wet film measurement
  • Command of end-to-end surface preparation and coating processes
  • Strong capability in equipment troubleshooting and maintenance
  • A meticulous eye for detail and a commitment to consistent workmanship
  • Forklift licence is desirable; gantry or overhead crane operation experience is also desirable
  • Eligible overseas candidates may be considered for sponsorship
