Key Responsibilities

Drive the overall daily performance of the bakery department, coordinating production so products are available when customers need them
Plan production using sales patterns and anticipated demand
Set and maintain standards for baking quality, freshness, presentation and portion control
Leverage professional bakery expertise to improve products and processes, introducing new lines that respond to customer preferences and market opportunities
Oversee stock, ordering, wastage and product availability
Support effective labour planning and departmental productivity
Coach, train, direct and support bakery staff
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and high standards
Stay hands-on with bakery operations, providing practical support and implementing effective solutions to operational issues
Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety standards
Keep the bakery clean, organised and customer-focused
Act on customer feedback to improve products and service
Partner with wider store management to achieve business objectives
Contribute to budgeting, cost control and commercial performance, continuously seeking gains in efficiency, product quality and customer satisfaction

Requirements & Eligibility

Demonstrated professional baking experience
Background in a supermarket, retail bakery, commercial bakery or comparable food production environment
Practical, in-depth knowledge of how bakery products are prepared and produced
A track record of producing quality bakery products consistently
Previous supervisory or management experience is advantageous
Applications are encouraged from experienced Bakers and Senior Bakers with leadership potential and from current Bakery Managers seeking a new challenge
Strong interest in bakery innovation and product development, with the ability to lead, coach, motivate and develop a team
Well-developed planning and organisational capability
Working knowledge of stock control, wastage, labour utilisation and departmental performance
Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider management team, with a hands-on approach to leadership and daily bakery operations
A strong customer-service focus and dedication to quality
Dedication to food safety, hygiene and workplace safety
Capacity to perform well in a busy retail setting
Willingness to relocate to Taranaki, New Zealand; eligible overseas professionals with relevant experience may be considered for employer sponsorship
