Arborists who want to broaden their professional experience will find a wide spread of work in this Waikato-based role, covering homes and businesses as well as council, utility and land-clearance contracts.
An established arboricultural company is recruiting a seasoned Climbing Arborist. Aerial work is the core of the position, but the successful candidate will also support ground operations and larger tree-care jobs. Professional equipment, continuing training and a structured approach to health and safety come with the role, alongside an experienced crew.
Because credentials, hands-on experience and capability are checked during recruitment, the process is more dependable for everyone and the appointment is better matched to the position.
Key Responsibilities
- Climb to maintain and manage trees, using sound technique to prune, trim and remove them, and step into ground crew tasks when needed
- Handle chainsaws, climbing gear, machinery and associated tools safely, observing strict safety standards whenever working aloft
- Service a project mix that spans utility, commercial, residential, council and land-clearance sites
- Assess each tree's condition before selecting and following a suitable method
- Bring efficiency and professionalism to every site, keeping it tidy and in line with its safety rules
- Liaise with fellow climbers and ground staff from start to finish of each job
- Check and care for protective gear and arboricultural tools
- Take part in toolbox talks, safety meetings and refresher sessions, and seek further training that deepens technical and industry expertise
- Speak with colleagues and clients in a professional manner
- Deliver dependable results as outdoor settings and project conditions shift
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum Level 3 NZQA Arboriculture qualification (or equivalent industry credentials); relevant overseas qualifications and experience may be assessed for suitability
- A minimum 2 years' practical experience as a climber
- Track record across aerial and ground-based arboricultural tasks, and capacity to prove genuine skill and experience in the field
- Class 1 Driver Licence, Restricted or higher
- Physical fitness to carry out demanding outdoor work without compromising safety
- Comfort at height and in changeable weather
- Personal accountability and a dependable work ethic, paired with a positive and cooperative team approach
- Dedication to health and safety, and high professional and workmanship standards
- Level 3 Utility Arboriculture qualification is an advantage
- Class 2 Driver Licence is an advantage
- Applicants must be able to supply suitable documentary proof of qualifications and employment history
- Overseas applicants must satisfy New Zealand's immigration and employment eligibility requirements
