Diesel Motor Mechanic

Heavy vehicle diagnostics is a specialist skill set worth developing, and this role lets you apply it every day. An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Heavy Vehicle Diesel Mechanic with strong technical and diagnostic capability.

The successful candidate will work across heavy vehicles, diesel engines, hydraulic systems and electrical components within a professional, safety-focused environment, building broad expertise across mechanical, hydraulic and electrical work.

Key Responsibilities

Perform servicing and maintenance on heavy diesel vehicles
Carry out repairs on diesel engines and mechanical components
Analyse and diagnose complex mechanical faults
Investigate and troubleshoot hydraulic system problems
Pinpoint and rectify electrical faults
Undertake preventative maintenance
Conduct scheduled servicing and inspections
Detect mechanical issues and complete effective repairs
Use vehicle diagnostic equipment and software proficiently
Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance, repairs and servicing
Adhere to health and safety requirements
Keep an organised, professional work environment across both workshop and outdoor settings

Requirements & Eligibility

Minimum 2 years' experience in heavy vehicle diesel mechanics
Full Class 1 driver's licence held
Class 4 licence highly regarded
In-depth diesel mechanical knowledge
Excellent diagnostic and fault-finding capability
Hands-on experience with hydraulic and vehicle electrical systems
Equally effective working independently or within a team
Strong communication skills
A safety-first mindset
Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software
Sound documentation and record-keeping practices
Physical fitness for mechanical work in both workshop and outdoor conditions
Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing is a must
Successful completion of a medical assessment is a must
A Ministry of Justice check must be passed
Existing New Zealand work rights are required, or eligibility for AEWV
